Product Description

Triton X-114 is a nonionic surfactant that is commonly used as an emulsifying agent, detergent, and protein solubilizing reagent in various laboratory and industrial applications. Triton X-114 is known for its ability to separate membrane proteins from hydrophilic proteins. It is also often used in the isolation of membrane proteins due to its phase separation properties. When the solution of Triton X-114 is heated above its cloud point temperature, it undergoes a phase separation, allowing for the partitioning of hydrophobic proteins and lipids into the detergent-rich phase, while hydrophilic proteins remain in the aqueous phase. This property makes it a valuable tool in membrane protein research and extraction.

Application

Triton X-100 has been used:
  • for permeabilization of cells before techniques like indirect immunofluorescence and flow cytometry
  • As a component of lysis buffer used for homogenization of cells
  • As a component of blocking buffer in immunofluorescence staining
  • For the preparation of cells in double fluorescence staining
