BSA is a single polypeptide chain consisting of about 583 amino acid residues and no carbohydrates. At pH 5-7 it contains 17 intrachain disulfide bridges and 1 sulfhydryl group.

Uses	Ponceau BS has been used in Masson′s trichrome stain for the staining of collagen. It has also been used for eosinophil staining.
Definition	ChEBI: An organic sodium salt having 2-[(2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)diazenyl]-5-[(4-sulfonatophenyl)diazenyl]benzene-1-sulfonate as the counterion. Used as a plasma stain in Masson's trichrome.
Preparation	3,4′-Disulfo-4-aininoazobenzene?diazo, and Naphthalen-2-ol coupling.
