Product Description

Terminal transferase, also known as terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT), is a template-independent DNA polymerase enzyme that is involved in the addition of nucleotides to the 3' hydroxyl (OH) terminus of DNA molecules. Unlike other DNA polymerases, TdT does not require a template strand for its activity and can add nucleotides to the growing DNA chain in a non-templated manner.

TdT plays a crucial role in the process of V(D)J recombination, which is a key mechanism in the generation of antibody diversity in vertebrates. During V(D)J recombination, TdT contributes to the diversity of immunoglobulin and T cell receptor genes by adding random nucleotides to the junctions of gene segments, leading to the generation of a wide range of antigen receptor specificities.

Furthermore, TdT has been identified in various stages of lymphoid cell development, particularly in immature lymphocytes, where it participates in the generation of diverse antigen receptor repertoires.
