General description
Sequential action of sulfatase from Helix pomatia and β-O-glucosidase from Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus on glucosinolates allows synthesis of thiohydroximates. [1] Sulfatase from Helix pomatia hydrolyzes β-naphthyl sulfate much faster than α-naphthyl sulfate. [2]
Application
Sulfatase from Helix pomatia is often used to remove sulfate groups from carbohydrates. [3]
Unit Definition
One unit will hydrolyze 1.0 μmole of p-nitrocatechol sulfate per hour at pH 5.0 at 37 °C (30 min assay).

EC 3.1.6.1 Usage And Synthesis |
Uses |
Sulfatase from Helix pomatia is often used to remove sulfate groups from carbohydrates. |
General Description |
Sulfatases comprise Cys/Ser-X-Pro-X-Arg motif that is conserved in their active sites. |
Biochem/physiol Actions |
Sulfatase from Helix pomatia facilitates the synthesis of thiohydroximates. It causes the hydrolysis of β-naphthyl sulfate much faster than a-naphthyl sulfate and possesses regiospecificity in the hydrolysis of ortho and para substituted phenyl sulfates. |
