AMMONIUM TETRATHIOMOLYBDATE Usage And Synthesis |
Chemical Properties | brown to black iridescent crystalline powder |
Uses | Ring opening of aziridines leading to sulfides and disulfides.1 |
Uses | Ammonium tetrathiomolybdate is used as an important reagent in synthetic chemistry and as a building block in bioinorganic chemistry. It is used in the treatment of copper toxicosis in animals and in Wilson's disease. It acts as a chelator in vivo to reduce copper levels. It interferes with angiogenesis and reduces tumor growth. Further, it is used in the synthesis of heterometallic sulfide clusters stabilized with dppm [bis(diphenylphosphino)meth ane] ligands. It is involved in the ring opening of aziridines leading to sulfides and disulfides. |
Biochem/physiol Actions | Acts as a chelator in vivo to reduce copper levels. Tetrathiomolybdate interferes with angiogenesis and reduces tumor growth. Its mechanism may involve inhibition of NF-κB and downstream cytokines. |
